Children of Fallen Soldiers or First Responders

We are honored to offer scholarships to the children of fallen soldiers and first responders, recognizing the sacrifices made by their families. These scholarships provide essential financial support, helping to ease the burden of educational expenses and ensure that these students have the opportunity to achieve their academic dreams. By supporting the education of these deserving individuals, we aim to honor the legacy of their loved ones and contribute to their future success.  Once all other aid has been exhausted such as government funded John Fry Scholarships, we offer scholarships for uncovered approved education costs as outlined in our FAQs.

About James A. Edwards

Jim Edwards had a passion about education, hard work, and integrity.  He mentored and positively impacted many people during his life and decided to continue the legacy after his passing through this Scholarship Trust.  Jim was born in 1927 in Meadville, PA.  He received a bachelor's degree from Allegheny College and served in the Navy during the Korean War.   He worked in Lawrenceburg Kentucky for approximately 3 decades at Universal Fastners and retired as the VP of Finance and Treasurer.  He also served on the Board of Directors.

Jim volunteered in many ways including:

Anderson County Library - Chairman of Board

Rotary Club - President

First Christian Church - Elder and Chairman of Board

Jim was a semi-professional musician and played the trumpet for many years.  He also took up sailing during his retirement years in Florida.  He loved history, reading, and traveling.

Most of all, Jim loved his family and people.  His first marriage was to Doris Edwards and they had four children.  Jim's second marriage was in retirement to Glenda Edwards.  They spent over 25 years of marriage in Florida together.  He had many children and grandchildren that he mentored and supported throughout his life.  His wit and sense of humor brightened all around him until the very end when he passed on April 15, 2024 at the age of 96 in Bradenton, FL.

The scholarship was born out of Jim's life experiences:  his humble beginnings, service to his country, hard work academically and professionally, and love for his fellow man.  Our goal is that each recipient feel the light and love that Jim brought to the world while pursuing their dreams.
